I just completed an 8-day ASA liveaboard sailing course (101, 103, 104, 114) with Captain Jeff Evans aboard the Speakeasy — a beautiful 42′ Fountaine Pajot catamaran through Cruise Abaco. It was one of the most impactful and rewarding experiences of my life.
Captain Jeff is the rare blend of calm, knowledgeable, patient, and personable. He guided me through everything from tacking and jibing to navigation, anchoring, and docking this 15-ton cat like a true Jedi Master. He handled my endless questions, philosophical yammering, and even my goof-ups (Poor Kenny… 😉😬) with steady grace.
Our days were a mix of ASA testing, hands-on sailing skills, and real-world experience in some of the most beautiful waters in the Bahamas. We stopped at places like Mermaid Reef and Fowl Cays National Park — partly to reinforce anchoring and mooring skills, and partly so the rest of the crew could enjoy swimming and exploring.
What really stood out was Jeff’s ability to balance intense instruction with laid-back island vibes. I walked away not only certified, but also confident and motivated to continue growing as a sailor. Thank you, Captain Jeff — I’m already planning my next trip with you.

Our overall experience with Cruise Abaco was absolutely fantastic! From managing our charter through the portal to checking in and cruising around the Abacos, we had an excellent experience. What drew us to Cruise Abaco were two things: 1) their personal approach and not being treated like a number the other corporate charters typically do; 2) the “Captain by Day” service. This service was the key reason we chose to charter with Cruise Abaco. We appreciated the flexibility to have a Captain take us safely throughout the Abacos during the day, securely set us on a mooring ball or anchor, and depart so that we had the boat and the night to ourselves. Our charter captain, Captain James L., did a fantastic job! There really are not enough wonderful things to say about James. He went above and beyond to make sure our Bahama sailing experience was one we will never forget! It really was the best week and vacation we’ve ever had thanks in a huge part to James. Abaco Cruise in the Bahamas was the best and most incredible vacation I have ever taken. The 48 foot Catamaran was beautiful and all 5 guests had their own room. The icing on the cake was our captain Will VanderMeer! He was incredibly knowledgeable, took time to give us history and geography information and very friendly and fun! We rented a 44’ power cat for 2 separate day trips during our stay in the Abacos. The boat was in new condition, well kept, and what you’d expect when renting a high end yacht. The process was streamlined, the staff were professional, and the Captain and Crew were fantastic on both days. They took us to different islands, snorkeling spots, restaurants along the water, and some really cool shallow sandbar areas that were great for just hanging out and enjoying the views. Our 4 & 6 year old children had a blast snorkeling, seeing the swimming pigs, and “helping” drive the boat and the tender. I highly recommend Cruise Abaco. Chad and his team curate an awesome experience.
